Outdoor Programs

Landmark College offers a diverse range of outdoor recreation programs and services for students. Situated in beautiful Putney, Vermont, we take advantage of New England’s four seasons and incredible natural landscape and offer organized outdoor programs and trips for students throughout the year, including hikes, rock climbing trips, shuttles to ski resorts, and more.

Facilities

Rock Climbing Wall

Our 32-foot tall indoor rock climbing wall provides opportunities for students to socialize, stay active, and challenge themselves year-round. The wall also serves as the classroom for the Introduction to Rock Climbing class offered by the Physical Education department.

Adventure Challenge Course

Our adventure challenge course features multiple high ropes elements and low ropes initiatives designed to help students work on leadership, communication, trust, and teamwork while building confidence and challenging themselves. The course is utilized by sports teams, academic classes, and residence halls to enhance performance while emphasizing important social and personal skills.

Campus Trails

A network of woodland trails provide on campus outdoor space for students to hike, run, mountain bike, and observe nature, as well as snowshoe and cross country ski in the winter months. The campus trail system also encompasses a six-basket disc golf course.

Trips and Activities

The college offers a wide variety of adventure programs and outdoor trips on weekends throughout the school year. Activities range from high-energy, adrenaline-soaked all-day adventures like outdoor rock climbing and paintball to more relaxed pursuits in nature such as hikes and canoe trips. We also offer a seasonal shuttle to Mount Snow for students who love to ski and snowboard. Activities change seasonally, and we try new things all the time based on what is in high demand and popular with our students.

Equipment Rentals

At Landmark College, students in good standing can rent bicycles in the warmer months and snowshoes once the temperatures drop, allowing students to explore outdoors at their leisure. Rentals are housed in the Click Center and loaned on a first come, first served basis.
