New Students

Congratulations on your decision to attend Landmark College!

Whether you're arriving in the fall, spring, or summer, you'll start by attending New Student Orientation. New Student Orientation is intended to assist incoming students, families, and loved ones better understand and be prepared for the goals and expectations of college life, as well as help students develop a sense of place. Through New Student Orientation, students, families and loved ones will be introduced to all of the services and programs available at Landmark. Students will be placed in an Orientation group that will support them through their first weekend on campus. The goal of orientation is to prepare incoming students for the academic and co-curricular experiences of college and to provide them with the tools they will need for success.

During New Student Orientation, you will:

  • Meet and make connections with your fellow classmates
  • Explore your new living & learning environment
  • Have time to settle into your residence hall and get to know your way around campus
  • Get introduced to the academic program and learn about the services available to you as a student

One of the many things that make Landmark College a better choice for students who learn differently is that we constantly strive to provide the right kind of support for the wide profile of learners that come to Landmark. In this spirit, Landmark has developed an early orientation designed for students with a documented diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (including diagnoses formerly known as Asperger’s Syndrome, High Functioning Autism or PDD-NOS).

Early orientation occurs from August 28-31, 2017.

The schedule for early orientation consists of the following:

  • Pre-arrival Interview – You and your family will have the opportunity to participate in a comprehensive interview about the important things Landmark should know when working with you. This interview will serve as the basis for how we work with you when you arrive.

  • Early Acclimation to Campus – You will arrive three days before the Fall 2017 incoming class to have more time to familiarize yourself with the campus and gain a practical understanding about the college experience.

  • Specialized Roommate Selection – You will receive additional review to determine appropriate and effective housing and roommate assignments. Because we spend additional time making roommate assignments for students in the early orientation program housing assignments for this group will not be announced until August 1, 2017.

  • Educational Planning Process – You will participate in an on-campus meeting, “Pathways,” to discuss your educational and personal goals. This person-centered planning process will also help us know you better so we can better support you.

  • Establishment of Allies and Safe Spaces – You will be introduced to key staff and faculty and the places you can go to when feeling stressed or overwhelmed during the semester.

  • Peer Group Development – This program is designed for a small group of students who will be mentored by specially selected upper-class students and a professional staff member. This group structure and the activities you will engage in during pre-orientation, will help in the development of a safe and comfortable peer group as you get ready for the full orientation program and the semester.

For the past eight years, we have successfully provided students with an effective and specialized college transitional structure.
