Educational Approach

Landmark College offers a diverse selection of courses in anthropology, English, business, communications, humanities, philosophy, psychology, history, literature, math, science, theater, video, music, art, physical education, and other disciplines.

We are committed to supporting students through a welcoming community and supportive academic environment. Our students benefit from an intentional approach to education that acknowledges the differing needs and strengths of developing learners. Through curricular offerings, academic advising, and our network of support, we provide an intellectual framework that introduces students to the cognitive, physical, and affective dimensions of learning. Best practices and current research guide our approach, as reflected in the following principles that shape how we design and sustain an exceptional collegiate environment:

  • Courses are designed to integrate skills and strategy development while learning course content.
  • Classes are small, ranging from eight to sixteen students.
  • Professors are accessible and highly supportive.
  • Assignments are relevant and meaningful, and professors provide clear objectives and feedback.
  • Student progress in course objectives is assessed using a variety of methods. 
  • Students focus on understanding themselves as learners, and self-reflection and metacognition are encouraged at every level of the curriculum.
  • Students develop personal learning strategies.

For all entering students, the curriculum sequence includes required general education coursework in composition and education content areas designed to develop college writing, reading, communication and study skills. Self-management, as well as self-understanding and self-advocacy, are also integral parts of the first year curriculum. Math courses are offered at different levels, and students enroll based on the results of their math placement determined through our online math placement system. Electives in a variety of disciplines complete students’ semester schedules.

In addition to direct, personalized assistance from classroom faculty, academic support is available for writing, reading, academic coaching, study skills, math, science, and coursework planning and completion in our Drake Center for Academic Support. The center offers scheduled one-on-one appointments or drop-in hours and is staffed with academic professionals.

Our programs are fully accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE). We have a proven record of success in preparing Landmark College graduates to either complete their baccalaureate degrees here or to transfer into baccalaureate degree programs at colleges of their choice.

Next Steps 

Students will be prepared to choose a career path or graduate school program after completing one of our baccalaureate degrees, or to step into four-year degree programs at Landmark or at colleges across the country if they choose our associate degree offerings.
