We're excited to welcome our students studying online! 

Orientation Sessions for New Online Students

Welcome to College START! We are looking forward to an exciting semester filled with enriching academic courses as well as opportunities for engagement through online social activities.

To prepare for the start of courses on Monday, August 28, we have prepared a collection of orientation materials for you, which will be available starting Thursday, August 24. Please take a look at the outline below and mark your calendars!

Some of you may have joined some of the online social activities offered this summer. These will continue into the semester and provide an opportunity to engage with your classmates and other Landmark students.

Thursday, August 24
2 – 2:30 p.m.
Welcome Address

Presenters: Dr. Peter Eden, President; Michael Luciani, Vice President for Student Affairs; Michael Stefanowicz, Vice President for Enrollment Management; and Dr. Karrie Kalich, Vice President for Academic Affairs

Landmark College leadership welcomes students and families to Landmark College. Please note that this is an on-campus session that will be streamed for online students and families.

3 – 4 p.m.
Advisor Meet & Greet with Students

Presenter: Eve Khan, Academic Advisor

This is an opportunity to chat with your advisor, Eve Khan, and meet her fellow advisees. During this session you will learn more about academic advising, and you will have the opportunity to ask questions about the start of classes and about your life as a Landmark College online student.

7 – 8 p.m.
LC Online Welcome and Icebreaker Activity

Presenters: Jessica Lindoerfer, Co-Director of Undergraduate LC Online and Intersession Programs; Thomas Kuzma, Coordinator of Online Programs and Support

Join us for an introduction and online activity to get to know your fellow students and some of the LC Online staff. This is also an opportunity for you to learn about some of the online social activities available through Landmark College.

8 – 10 p.m.
Evening Social Activity: Jackbox Games Night

Presenter: Thomas Kuzma, Coordinator of Online Programs and Support, and on-campus Social Pragmatics staff members

Join TK online or the folks in the bunker room on campus for Jack Box Games night! We play a variety of games, and have so much fun! This activity is open to both on-campus and online students.

Friday, August 25
2 – 3 p.m.
Navigating Online Courses

Presenters: Denise Jaffe, Co-Director of Undergraduate LC Online and Intersession Programs; Janette Kennedy, online instructor

In this session, presenters will show students how to navigate an LC Online course. They will share their tips for success in LC Online courses, including navigating instructional materials, tracking assignments, understanding assignments, and managing time in an online course.

3:30 – 4:30 p.m.
Preparing for Your First Week

Presenters: Eve Khan, Academic Advisor; Jessica Lindoerfer, Co-Director of Undergraduate LC Online and Intersession Programs

Students will meet with their advisor and peer advising cohort to begin getting acquainted with their laptop, discover how to best use it for academics, access Landmark College information, and best communicate with community members.

Presenters will help students learn how to navigate the email/calendar programs, Student Central, and Canvas. During this session, advisors will also help you build your first week’s schedule and ensure you have a solid balance of time for work and play!

Discover some tips on how to manage your time, set routines, and commit to action to begin your semester with confidence.

 

Family Orientation Overview

We recognize families play an integral part in supporting their student in having a successful experience. Several sessions will be held during New Student Orientation for families to help them support their student as they transition to online learning at Landmark College. Some of the sessions are for online families only, and some are livestreamed from campus.

Living & Learning at Landmark: A Program Overview

Presenters: Michael Luciani, Vice President for Student Affairs; Dr. Karrie Kalich, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Jill Hinckley, Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Education; Nevada Bromley, Director of Academic Advising; Anna Habib, Director of Academic Support and Placement; and Tori Tilson, Interim Director of Counseling

This program provides a brief overview of the academic and student life components of the Landmark College experience.  There will be an opportunity to ask questions.

5:30 – 6:30 p.m.
Welcome to LC Online—Family Orientation Session

Presenters: Jessica Lindoerfer, Co-Director of Undergraduate LC Online and Intersession Programs; Eve Leons, Academic Advisor for online students

During this session we will provide an overview of how LC Online courses work; review the roles of administrators, faculty, and advisors; and provide tips on how to guide your students as they transition to online learning at Landmark.

Friday, August 25
9:15 – 10:15 a.m.
What to Expect in the First Year

Presenters: Michael Luciani, Vice President for Student Affairs, and Dr. Karrie Kalich, Vice President for Academic Affairs

The transition to college is an eventful one with many benchmarks and milestones along the way. This workshop will review the patterns of a student’s transition to college and will make suggestions on how parents can support their students in making that transition.

10:30 – 11:15 a.m.
The Academic Rhythm of the Semester

Presenter: Jill Hinckley, Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Education

Wondering about the ebb and flow of academic expectations during the semester? Learn about the rhythm of an academic semester at Landmark College, including faculty expectations, workload, support programs, and how we facilitate communication between students and families regarding academic performance.

6 – 6 p.m.
Family Q & A

Presenter: Jessica Lindoerfer, Co-Director of Online & Intersession Programs

This is an unstructured Q & A session for families of online students. We will have the opportunity to address any outstanding questions you might have about your student’s upcoming experience as a Landmark College student, and meet some of the other families.
