Welcome to Landmark’s Study Abroad program in Scotland, 2017!

Lucy Stamp (Program Director) and Ned Olmsted (Academic Director) will be leading a group of 14 students in Scotland this year.  We are scheduled to depart Boston on July 8 and return on July 29.   The group will travel to three different locales while in Scotland.  Students will be exposed to the works of a number of renowned nature writers and reflect upon the meaning of "wildness" throughout their travels in and around Scotland.  Our first stop will be Wanlockhead, a former lead mining village, which is located on the Southern Upland Way (a 212 mile coast to coast walk between Portpatrick in the west and Cockburnspath in the east of Scotland).  At an altitude of 467 metres, Wanlockhead is also considered the highest village in Scotland.  There will be many opportunities for hiking in and around Wanlockhead--as well as a day-long canoe trip on the river Clyde.  From Wanlockhead, we will journey north to the Isle of Skye where we will stay on the shores of Loch Harport in the village of Carbost.  While on Skye, students will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of guided hikes and tours, including a hike into the Cuillin hills and a guided tour of the entire island.  At the end of our visit to Skye, we will journey by ferry to Mallaig on the mainland where we will have the opportunity to experience one of the most scenic rail journeys in the world on our way to Edinburgh, Scotland's capital city and our final stop.....
