Kayaking adventure

After working on the farm, we were thrilled to have the opportunity to jump into the Caribbean to rinse off and relax our bodies. The evening's adventure was one we were all looking forward to: kayaking in a bioluminescent bay.

At the start of our adventure, we met our kayak guide Ty, who will surely be one of the favorite people that we have met during this trip. Only minutes into his introduction, Ty revealed himself to have ADHD and be dyslexic, and was so excited to hear about Landmark College and connect with our group. We felt the same way!

Ty is energetic, welcoming, and extremely knowledgeable, and his excitement and enthusiasm for St Croix is contagious. During our 2-hour kayaking trip, he peppered us with questions about nature related to St Croix or general Marine biology, and our group came through with tons of knowledge!

We paddled across the Salt River Bay, taking a look at the nature around us. As it began to get dark, we entered a smaller, man-made bay. In darkness we could see the millions of one-celled plankton glow as we dipped our paddles or hands into the water. It's an image impossible to capture on film or digital media, but none of us will ever forget it. This was certainly a highlight of our trip!
