Setting camera traps in Orapa Game Park

Today was our third day in Orapa. It was been an amazing experience being here in this short amount of time. We all woke up bright and early to be able to get the opportunity to have a lecture from a rhino veterinarian named Dr. F.J. Verreynne or Erik. Erik talked about when the Orapa Game Park (OGP) had opened and what it took to become the park it is today. My classmates and I got to learn about how to set up cameras in the park, and being able to distinguish the tracks of the animals that have been in the site in that point in time. We got to learn that from Professor Stein. Then, Erik talked to us more about rhinos, how they live, what they eat, how black and white rhinos differ and how to track them. After that, we went out to the Orapa Game Park and started to put up the cameras in four different areas with a total of 6 cameras. While on the drive to go set up the cameras, we got the opportunity again to see more amazing animals. For instance, we got to see Springboks, Blue Wildebeest, Zebras, Jackal, Ostriches, Warthogs and Kudus. After the second time going to the park, it’s been even more of an incredible experience getting to be in these amazing creature’s world. Submitted by Sarah Rabbitt
