First day in Wanlockhead

After a somewhat damp journey from the airport yesterday, we arrived in the village of Wanlockhead, Scotland, a village where the sheep are free roaming and seem to dominate the landscape. The proprietor of our new residence, Lotus Lodge, reminded us of the importance of keeping the gate locked at all times to keep the sheep at bay.  If you look carefully, you can see all the sheep dotting the hillsides in the picture below.  These "locusts with hooves," as some environmentalists refer them, are one of a number of themes that run throughout the environmental literature course.  So far--the students have found them to be relatively harmless.....
