Calabash Bowls

This afternoon we gathered around the fire pit to learn how to make calabash bowls, and then made a bunch. Our teacher was Snow Bear, a man who lives here on the farm during the winter months, and who is an ethnobotanist. Here are some pictures of the class in process:

Today (Saturday) is devoted to working on papers, then we do some farm help later this afternoon. The farm staff were packing up boxes for their CSA today, but those are headed out for distribution so we have our long table back for working on. Andy cooks us our last delicious dinner here tonight, and we pack up so that we’re ready to go early tomorrow morning to fly up to St. Thomas and take the ferry to Water Island.
