Champions Again: Indoor Soccer Wins!

On Wednesday April 5th, Landmark College Indoor Soccer finished atop their division and then went on to win both their semi-final and championship match for the second year in a row.

The team had steadily improved throughout the year and peaked on the final night of the season.  Individual play and team play was honed at weekly practice sessions and team meetings and every bit of effort was needed to squeak by with a 1-0 win in the semi-final game.

The championship game was also a very exciting and closely contested game.  Despite lots of end to end action and several scoring chances for both teams, the championship game was 0-0 at the end of regulation.  An intense "golden goal" overtime period also ended 0-0 and the championship would be determined by penalty kicks.

After getting behind early in the first penalty kick round, the Sharks salvaged a tie with a goal by Peter Ansay and brilliant saves by Austin Matusz.  In the second round of penalty kicks, Tristan Dunning scored with a blistering shot that went off the post and in to give the Sharks the win and the championship.

Goalkeeping figured hugely in these games and Matusz gave a flawless performance making several key saves and not allowing a single goal in regulation or overtime periods.

In a friendly game earlier the same evening, three LC players scored 3 goals each in a 9-0 win.  Alyssa Partington, Caroline Hendry, and Peter Ansay all registered hat tricks.  A grand ending to an enjoyable indoor season.  Congratulations Sharks!
