Adventure Academy: Connecting Mind and Movement in Middle Schoolers

A week long program for middle school students focused on the importance of Executive Function (organization, time management, planning, study skills, and more), combined with sessions in either sports and recreation or arts and crafts.

Monday, July 5 – Friday, July 9, 2021, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Students will participate in daily sessions introducing skills and strategies to improve Executive Function (EF) during interactive sessions and workshops.

Students will leave the program with a better understanding of their individual strengths, as well as personalized materials (self-notebooks, discovery wheels, and reward-based academic plans) they can implement at home and continue to use throughout their academic journey.

Program Overview:

  • Exploration of a variety of sports will range from, but not limited, to soccer, baseball and softball, and basketball.
  • Specific drills, exercises, competitions etc., will accommodate a variety of skills and interests.
  • NEW for 2021—Arts and Crafts option
  • Workshops will provide resources to help students learn about executive function and how it impacts learning.

8:45 – 9 a.m. Arrival—student drop off
9 – 10:30 a.m. Interactive Session 1 (sports and recreation OR arts and crafts)
10:30 – 10:45 a.m. Break/Snack
10:45 a.m. – Noon Workshop—Executive Function Session (all students)
Noon – 1 p.m. Lunch—LC dining hall
1 – 2:30 p.m. Interactive Session 2 (sports and recreation OR arts and crafts)
2:30 – 3 p.m. Wrap Up/Snack
3 p.m. Departure—student pick up

Lunch and Snacks Provided

We encourage student to be dressed appropriately and for the weather (i.e., rain coats, boots or sturdy shoes, and hats as appropriate, sunscreen, and bug spray).
