Research Scholar for STRIVE

Location

STEM 003

Zach is a Research Scholar with STRIVE at Landmark College, where his work focuses on nonverbal communication, social perception, and applied research supporting neurodivergent learners. He earned his Ph.D. and M.A. in Communication from the University at Buffalo, SUNY.

His research examines trust, interpersonal relationships, and impression formation through a nonverbal behavioral lens, exploring how facial expressions (macro- and micro-expressions), body behavior, and tone of voice influence emotion perception, deception detection, and conflict communication.

During his doctoral training, Zach worked with Dr. Mark G. Frank in the Communication Science Center Nonverbal and Deception Research Laboratory, studying emotion expression and behavioral indicators of credibility. He was affiliated with a $20 million National Science Foundation–funded grant developing artificial intelligence systems to assist young children with speech and language processing challenges and was the recipient of a graduate student funding award examining anger across communication styles in conflict scenarios. He also served as a research assistant on a National Science Foundation–funded Center for Identification Technology Research (CITeR) grant.

Zach earned his B.A. in Psychology and Sociology from Niagara University, where he worked in the Memory and Cognition Laboratory. His background in cognitive science informs his interdisciplinary approach to communication research.
