On Wednesday night, the entire class travelled to The Crane Bar for an oral retelling of a Celtic folktale. Upon arriving, we were met with a fairly narrow two-story bar. The bottom floor is a standard bar layout with tables, a long counter, booths and seats all around. The second floor is where the actual events are regularly hosted. Tables and seats, generally being more “relaxing” seating rather than what you may imagine as “dining” seating, are all around a slightly elevated stage. Over the course of 2 hours (with a break in the middle). The speaker, pictured above, did a fantastic job telling this story, moving around the stage and twisting it slightly to make the in-the-moment experience all the more exciting.

PART 2: Ethel Cain Concert in Dublin

by Sparrow Rosenbaum

There are some experiences in this life that you would sell an arm and a leg to be a part of. Fortunately for me, I didn’t have to do that, at least not this time around. I’ve been lucky enough to celebrate my twentieth birthday in Ireland, and to commemorate the occasion, my housemate and sister surprised me with tickets to an Ethel Cain concert in Dublin on Saturday the 27th of June, which I was no less than ecstatic about. They bought me not one, but two tickets, as they recommended I bring a friend so that I wouldn’t get lost.

On the morning of the 27th, my classmate Becca and I left the campus of the University of Galway and got on the bus bound for the Galway Ceannt train station. From there, we got on a train bound for the Heuston Station Dublin, a ride that lasted almost three hours and contained some truly gorgeous views I saw from my window seat. I sat across from an older couple who kindly offered me some oatmeal biscuits when I asked if they had any extra snacks on them, and I took some time to work on some homework during the ride.

Shortly after Becca and I arrived at Abigail’s Hostel in Dublin, we took a bus to Fairview Park, where the concert was being held under a huge tent reminiscent of that of a circus. To say the concert was transcendent was an understatement, and I nearly cried several times singing along with Ethel, who looked absolutely beautiful onstage. The journey back to the hostel was a little rough, seeing as we had trouble finding a taxi, but we managed, and we were back home safe the next day.

PART 3: Pizza Writing Session

Photos and writing by William Shetley

Today we did a pizza and writing night at the student center in Dunlin Village and had pizza and cookies. Professor Glennon arranged a pizza party where we were supposed to work on our final essays. I remember our professor telling us not to eat anything before the pizzas arrived. The pizzas were great. I had six slices and cookies. The cookies were great too. I liked the Hobnob cookies the best and would highly recommend them to people who have never tried them before. I would also recommend going to the Wooza Pizza, where our professors got the pizza from.
