Neuroinclusive Design of Upper Campus Commons Project Highlighted by Architect Today
Architectural publication Architect Today recently featured Landmark College's Upper Campus Commons construction project as part of a feature on neuroinclusive design principles.
Upper Campus Commons architect Bennett Fradkin—who is a member of the College Board of Trustees and who also designed the MacFarlane Science, Technology and Innovation Center on campus—spoke with Architect Today about the approach his firm took, including directly engaging Landmark students, in order to create as inclusive of a design as possible.
The new building "will give the students a flexible, multi-purpose space for study, socializing, and events," Fradkin said. "In designing the space, we treated it much like an open-plan workplace, focusing on clarity, predictability, and sensory control. Above all, we wanted to create a neuroinclusive place where students felt they belonged."
