Members of the Landmark College community recently decorated and donated more than 80 bowls to Empty Bowls, an organization that fights hunger.
Before this year’s Empty Bowls Dinner, in the College’s Fine Arts Building Ceramics Studio, there was an Empty Bowls making event for faculty and staff on Sept. 30. The event provided fired and unfired bowls to be glazed, carved, and painted, or decorated with other tools. No experience was necessary.
“This year, I thought we could go bigger with the bowl-making event on campus,” said Assistant Professor of Ceramics Cynthia Ludlam. “I wanted to create an opportunity for our campus community to come together and have the opportunity to get creative and contribute to something meaningful.”
The event included faculty and staff, administration, alumni, a student intern, and more.
“Seeing so many people from Landmark show up with such enthusiasm was incredibly rewarding,” Ludlam said. “We donated over 80 bowls, each one uniquely made, but all created with the same intention, which was to give back. To me, that's a big part of what community is all about.”
The 23rd annual Empty Bowls Dinner was held at the College on Oct. 10. Each dinner ticket included a handcrafted bowl, and all funds raised benefited Foodworks, a regional food shelf program in Brattleboro, Vt. Foodworks is operated by Groundworks Collaborative, a nonprofit that works to end hunger and homelessness.
