July 20: Visit to the Fairy Pools at Coire na Creiche

Today we embarked on our final mountain hike at the Fairy Pools on the Isle of Skye, which has become a more popular tourist attraction since we were last here three years ago.  I would hasten to guess that one of the reasons people appear to be drawn to the area can be attributed to the association with “fairies” in the name. But there is definitely a supernatural quality to the falls and the water in this area, as evident in the pictures below.  We progressed along the Sligachan path towards the fairy pools together and then split into two groups.  One group returned on a longer, more circuitous route back to the car park, while the other group returned back along the same path past the fairy pools to the car park.  Several students bathed in the pools along the path at various points, and the weather cooperated throughout—although it was cooler than it was when we hiked into the Cuillins a couple of days ago.
