Landmark College leaders and staff appeared on two podcasts in late June to discuss challenges and opportunities facing neurodivergent learners, as well as some unique offerings that Landmark College can provide for those who learn differently and at many stages of their educational journey.

Dr. Adam Lalor, Vice President for Neurodiversity Research and Innovation, appeared on the Divergent Conversations podcast in an interview with Patrick Casale, an AuDHD mental health professional. On the podcast, Lalor discussed his research on how to improve the transition to college and success of neurodivergent learners, as well as what makes Landmark College unique in the space of higher education.

“Landmark College was founded by some of the earliest disability rights activists… they were the ones who said, ‘This is wrong that so many capable, intelligent students are not moving onto higher education,’” Lalor said. “When we think about how education is delivered within the post-secondary context, most faculty are not taught to teach, let alone to teach for diverse individuals who have different learning needs and need to be assessed in different kinds of ways… at Landmark, our faculty and staff are certainly discipline experts, but are really primarily educators.”

On the My Child Has Disabilities Now What? podcast, staff members of the Landmark College Success Center were in conversation with host Sherrean Carr. Representing the Success Center were Sandra Fishler (Director), Sarah Firestein (Senior Learning Specialist and PEERS Facilitator), and Oindrila Das (Learning Specialist and PEERS facilitator). The Success Center team discussed their San Mateo, California based offerings, including coaching and PEERS workshops for neurodivergent teens, young adults, and adults.

“The Landmark College Success Center is a place of support—we serve the neurodivergent teen, young adult, and adult in the areas of executive function support, academic reading and writing support, as well as transition skill building to and through college. These are done in very personalized, one-on-one coaching sessions online or in-person, depending on individual needs,” Fishler said. “Three years ago, we added the PEERS program to support social skill building, as a reflection of what Landmark College is doing. We are looking to bring services to California from Putney, Vermont.”
