Landmark Hosts Blood Drives in Partnership with American Red Cross

Landmark College hosted two successful blood drives this Spring semester as part of an ongoing partnership with the American Red Cross. There was particularly strong need this year, with the American Red Cross declaring a severe blood shortage in January 2026. At that time, blood inventories had dropped 35% between December 2025 and January 2026.

62 donors gave blood across two blood drive events on campus in February and April, collecting over 25 liters of blood for the American Red Cross. 30 of the 62 donors were either Landmark College students or faculty and staff, with the remaining donors coming from the broader Putney community.

According to the Red Cross, ensuring an adequate blood supply is vital to our national health care infrastructure, and particularly for the safety and wellbeing of patients who may be delivering a child, experiencing a traumatic injury, or battling blood-related diseases such as Sickle Cell.

Associate Director of Intersession and Online Enrollment Lisa Lawrence said that she gives blood because “without a blood transfusion during a medical complication of my own, I would not have survived.” For that reason “it felt important to give blood myself and pay it forward,” Lawrence continued.
