Landmark College Statement About “Varsity Blues” Scandal

It disappointed and concerned us to learn that accommodations for students with learning disabilities were being exploited in the recently reported fraudulent admissions scheme.

Since our founding in 1985 as a college exclusively for neurodivergent students, we have seen countless young adults thrive in higher education when provided with legitimate and appropriate accommodations. A mistrust of the importance and effectiveness of such opportunities for these students must not be an outcome of this terrible abuse of the system.

Nor should the criminal case be allowed to cast wide aspersions on the thousands of honest and dedicated educational counselors, evaluators, and consultants who recommend these accommodations. We know from firsthand experience how many of these educational professionals see this vocation as a calling that fulfills their deep passion for helping families and their students achieve their college, career, and life goals.
