Fall 2017 Commencement

Abundant sunshine greeted the family members and friends who visited the Landmark College campus Saturday for the Fall 2017 Commencement Ceremony. That feeling of brightness carried over into the Greenhoe Theater where 43 students were officially taking their next, big life-step.

Thirty-five of the graduates were receiving their associate degrees in liberal studies, business studies, computer science/gaming and life sciences. Landmark College president, Dr. Peter Eden, noted in his welcoming remarks that roughly 10 of those students would be staying to work toward their bachelor’s.

Among the 8 graduates getting a bachelor’s degree was Danielle Singer (pictured above), the College’s first student to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art. “Landmark College was the only place that would give me what I needed,” she said when it was her turn at the podium.

Many other students also took the time to give thanks and share thoughts about their journey. You can watch the entire ceremony here:

Community Service Award: Dashiell Katz

The Community Service Award is given to the student who has unselfishly given of themselves to the activities of the Landmark College community.

Academic Dean’s Award: Brittney Eklund

The Academic Dean's Award is given to the student who has best demonstrated the qualities that define academic success at Landmark College. These qualities include hard work, seriousness toward learning, intellectual development, and measurable achievement, such as grades.

Charles Drake Award: Alyssa Partington

The Charles Drake Award is given to a student who has inspired the community by his or her personal qualities. This student is not a quitter and who lives in the tradition of Dr. Charles Drake, whose lifetime of vision and courage helped found the College. This student gives 100 percent, goes the extra mile, and perseveres in pursuit of his or her goals. This student helps the rest of us realize that we have more resources to draw upon than we think, and helps us keep going when we feel discouraged.

President’s Award: Megan Warren

The President’s Award is given to the student who has best exemplified the principles we believe in here at Landmark College. The student is talented and energetic, meets difficulties head-on, works hard, and is dedicated to his or her studies. This student also finds time to contribute to the well-being of other persons and to the life of the Landmark College community as a whole.

Presentation of Class Gift

Alexis Bird (at podium) and Alyssa Partington (right) present a check for $2,178.17 to President Eden. The total is a collective effort of donations, service, and fundraising by the December 2017 Class and The Young Alumni Committee. The gift was designated toward scholarship support to ensure future students have access to a Landmark College education.
