Exciting Finish Extends Win Streak to Nine for Landmark College Men’s Baseball Team

What an exciting game to have as our fan appreciation game. Finn's Free Dog's were a hit and so was the game. A roller coaster of emotions, but in the end, well you have to keep reading.

So there we are...bottom of the 7th, down by three.  Patrick Hamel leads off the inning with a gritty at bat that resulted in a walk after being down 0-2.  Will Kelley then singled into left field to put runners on first and second.  Then catcher Tim Martin was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs.

The hit of the game came when Charlie Murphy ripped a solid single over the second baseman's head scoring Hamel from third and Kelley from second.  With some heads up base running, Murphy saw the throw missing the cutoff man and going all the way to the plate, so he took off for second.  Once the catcher had the ball he threw to second to try to get the runner at which point Martin broke for home.  In a very close play at the plate, Martin slid into the defender's glove and knocked the ball loose, scoring the game tying run.

Now, with a runner on second, a new pitcher on the mound, and still no one out, Coach Wood and Coach Stanley made the decision of the night.  The next hitter, Peter Nelson-Hermon, would sacrifice bunt to get the runner to third.  Nelson-Hermon then did just that, and more, as the first baseman misplayed the throw, thus allowing Murphy to score the winning run in walk-off fashion. Coach Wood would later describe the game as "the best he's ever been a part of at Landmark College."
