Celebrating Black History Month

A graphic with abstract art and the words Black History MonthHappy Black History Month!

I hope we all can open our minds and hearts to recognize that Black history is American history.  I hope we all understand how Black history is more than what we read and see; it is about the roots, the sacrifice for civil rights, and power of the people.  No matter what, those who blazed the trail before us were able to overcome their challenges and struggles to make a statement and leave their mark on history creating a legacy that we celebrate today.

Since Black history is American history, I believe that we can all come together to celebrate who you are and the foundation from which you come, but it is even more special when others want to celebrate it with you.

Black History Month programs will be happening throughout the month of February in each of the Centers for Diversity and Inclusion.  We encourage all members of the community to participate.  Remember, we are all connected once we open our minds!

Happy Black History Month!

“Change will not come if we wait for some other person, or if we wait for some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.” —Barack Obama
