Visiting Canterbury and St. Augustine
We boarded our overland train from St. Pancras to Canterbury with less than a minute to spare as part of the group was delayed on the Underground. Upon our arrival, Dr. Miller gave the group a bit of background as we stood outside Canterbury Gate.
Our students took notes on a lecture given by a cathedral guide who told us the history of the Cathedral including the sad end of St. Thomas Beckett who was assassinated by knights right in the abbey.
We walked through the courtyard of the cathedral and learned about its architecture.
Austin took a moment to capture the splendor of the intricate carvings and we learned of the stories told by the stained glass windows.
We traveled to the ruins of St. Augustine’s Abbey and went on an outdoor self-guided tour.
Gil squeezed into a sentry stand.
We walked past this beautiful canal on our way back to the train station.
Ani showed her new Gameboy, a purchase she made in Canterbury, to her fellow students as we gathered to wait for our train back to London.
