Welcome to Japan

The group of 14 excited students arrived at Narita Airport on Sunday afternoon local time after a 14 hour flight from NYC. After a brief chance to drop off luggage at the Hotel NIkko Narita, the group took a 20 minute bus ride to the Aeon Mall, where they had their first group meal and a chance to try fresh tempura as it was cooked in front of them.

After a good night's rest this morning the group enjoyed a generous and diverse all you can eat buffet breakfast and then took a 2 hour bus ride into the center of Tokyo.

From Shinjuku Station, said to be the busiest train station in the world, they boarded a local train for the seven minute ride to Sangubashi where they walked ten minutes to the National Olympic Memorial Youth Center which will be their home for most of the next three weeks.  This first day in Tokyo ended with a group dinner on the top floor of one of the tallest buildings in the Center with a great view of the city skyline as well as their residence hall.
