Landmark College Day Two in Berlin

After class in the morning yesterday, we spent the afternoon touring  around Berlin on a bus for several hours to get an overview of the city. In the evening students got settled in to doing their first night of serious homework for their "Cities at War: Berlin" class. Today we had another class in the morning, and then walked over to see the "Schwerbelastungskorper," or the large, weight-bearing body/cement pole that Hitler had made to guage whether it could carry the weight of the massive arch planned as part of his vision for a "Germania" or capital of the world. Brian prepared the students well for thinking about how this seemingly insignificant and dilapidated object carries so much symbolic weight in terms of capturing the "what if" of history and the unrealized Nazi vision for Berlin. We had a wonderful downpour in the afternoon that brought much cooler weather. Students are settling in and getting familiar with our Kreutzberg neighborhood that is filled interesting things to do and eat!
