July 24: First day in Edinburgh, Scotland After our scheduled morning class, we took a group hike up

After our scheduled morning class, we took a group hike up to Arthur’s Seat, which is located near Holyrood palace and the Scottish parliament building.  Arthur’s seat is one of the highest points in Edinburgh and offers spectacular views of the city, castle, and surrounds.  The exact origins of the name, “Arthur’s Seat” are unknown—although some speculate that this particular location may have been the site of the legendary Camelot.  Most students made it to the top of Arthur’s seat to take in the views—while others explored the numerous paths, various ruins, and reflecting pools below.  After a long journey to Edinburgh and another fairly strenuous hike, students were happy to take some time to enjoy the city of Edinburgh and write their journals before retiring for the night.
