Identification:

Leaves—

small, green colored.

Twigs—

not too thin, dark chestnut color

Flowers—

light pink medium sized flowers

Fruit—

round, plump, bright, sunny colored fruit

Bark—

smooth texture, dark red-brown color

Natural History:

Lifespan—

not very long, usually about 10 years.

General description—

During the age of exploration, the Spanish introduced this fruit to the Americas. Then it quickly became a popular part of the American farming culture. Overtime, due to their popularity, they were grown alongside the apples too. They are usually found in gardens and orchards.

Natural distribution and habitat—

Native to the regions of the old world, probably originally from China. Then it was grown in the US during colonial times.

Conservation status—

No current threats, since due to their popularity, humans continue to cultivate them and develop more varieties.

Uses—

usually for food items for humans.
