Payroll Specialist (part time)

We are currently seeking a part-time Payroll Specialist. The successful candidate will be able to accurately and efficiently prepare and control all payrolls for Faculty, Staff and Students, while providing support to managers in approving timesheets, problem solving, and assisting employees with questions regarding pay. The salary/rate for this position is $20-25 per hour.

Responsibilities:

  • Verify data entry from HR for new employees as received.
  • Complete employee data entry with correct status, PTO accruals if required and coding for wages and salary in PayFlex (timesheet system).
  • Ensure all employees are registered and have access and instruction for use of timesheet and/or PTO system, including Supervisors.
  • Review all timesheets bi-weekly for accuracy, completeness, and appropriate approval.
  • Verify all PTO requests are approved for pay period.
  • Process time records into check processing system, including salaried employees.
  • Format stipend worksheets for import into the appropriate payroll groups. Once checks are created, adjust gross, rates, or deductions as required by HR.
  • Run preprocessing reports for verification.
  • Timely submission of Payroll to Paychex for processing and provide cash requirements to management to allow timely transfer of funds.
  • Run all post processing reports.
  • Verify, adjust, and process Payroll journal entry and import into accounting system.
  • Assist with preparation for annual audit.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Prior payroll experience required
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Paychex experience is an advantage
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Self-starter
  • Must be able to complete bi-weekly payroll for 400 employees
