Athletics Assistantship (Esports)

Primary Functions:

  • Coach and manage the daily operations of Landmark College's Esports program, including two (2) or more competitive teams in the NACE conference and the Esports Club
  • Coordinate scrimmages and non-NACE competitions as needed
  • Coordinate player and supporter recruitment
  • Oversee the campus esports facility (Strauch Family Student Center Gaming Lab)
  • Support the Athletic, Fitness, and Recreation Department in program administration, marketing and execution of programs Specific Responsibilities:

Coaching and Program Management

  • Schedule and facilitate three (3) practices per week for each team, coordinating with student schedules as needed
  • Work with players individually and as a group to improve their skills and team cohesion
  • Lead team Video on Demand (VOD) review and analysis to identify challenges and develop growth points and improvement plans
  • Register and manage player eligibility with NACE for the competitive season, including all paperwork such as Eligibility Certificates and exemptions, Intent to Compete forms, and other paperwork as needed
  • Actively recruit esports Student-Athletes for selected game titles
  • Manage reschedule requests for competitions in a timely and professional manner     Support players in balancing athletic commitments with academic responsibilities
  • Foster a positive culture and sense of belonging within the esports program, assisting students with interpersonal concerns and meeting expectations as team members
  • Advise the Esports Club in collaboration with student leaders
  • Work with the Director to manage behavioral concerns and rule violations within the esports space
  • Arrange regular competitive scrimmages for each team with other esports teams and programs
  • Seek and recruit for non-NACE competitions tike NIRSA esports intramurals and other events.
  • Manage esports broadcasts and competitive outreach using resources such as the Landmark Esports Twitch channel
  • Collaborate with other departments to increase awareness and following of the esports team and their competitions
  • Support the development of non-player supports alongside extra-departmental partners, including broadcasters, graphic designers, journalists, etc.
  • Scout opposing teams, review Video on Demand (VOD) of their matches, and highlight relevant details for team practices

Facility and Equipment Management

  • Maintain an inventory of esports equipment and process work orders and service requests as needed
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards, including safety, risk management, and accessibility

Publicity and Marketing

  • Design, market, and post flyers for the semester's events for athletic, fitness, and recreation programs
  • Conduct a campus-wide poll to gauge student interest in competitive game titles offered by NACE and other organizations
  • Help ensure that all athletics, fitness, and recreation calendars, publicity, and marketing messages remain updated, current, and comprehensive. This includes but is not limited to the web presence (College intranet, external website, social media), publications, posters, flyers, newsletters, calendar of events, blogs, and other creative campus-wide communications.
  • Take photos at events to share with Marketing & Communications and students, which will be used for promotion and shared externally (e.g., website. social media, etc.).

Other Responsibilities

  • Assist with campus-wide initiatives such as Orientation, Family Weekend, Accepted Students Day, and Open Houses
  • Represent Esports in relevant college meetings, programs, or committees
  • Assist with student leadership training programs
  • Collaborate with other departments for programs, events, publications, marketing, and facility maintenance
  • Support other department program areas, including but not limited to planning and facilitating athletic and/or recreation events
  • Drive Landmark shuttle for athletic teams or other department-promoted recreational opportunities
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support Landmark's Office of Athletic, Fitness, and Recreation or Student Affairs Division (These duties may include administrative tasks, event planning, or other responsibilities related to the smooth operation of the department)

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Associate's degree, bachelor's degree preferred, with experience in esports, traditional sports, fitness, recreation, learning differences/LDs, and social media  Passion for esports, competitive sports, and player development
  • Ability to support students in high-stress and high-intensity moments
  • Ability to engage and manage long-term planning, scheduling, and program development
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple teams and projects effectively  Ability to work independently or as a team to meet goals
  • Experience working with students with learning disabilities preferred
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including regular evenings and weekends

Work Environment:

The position is a part-time, 30-hour per week position, with an opportunity to have on-campus housing, and is eligible to receive board (when the Dining Hall is open) at the published staff rate. General office, campus, athletic/fitness center, and outdoor environment. Some travel may be required, Evening and weekend work is required. The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts requiring standard safety precautions.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; jog/run; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, toots, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; drive a College vehicle. Ability to occasionally lift, carry, and/or drag approximately 50 pounds. This position may occasionally require laborious physical demand and exposure to extended periods in heat/frigid temperatures. Extensive computer use involving repetitive hand and wrist motion is required.
