Assistant Director of Social Pragmatic Support

$2,500 SIGN ON BONUS

Primary Function:

The Assistant Director of Social Pragmatic Support serves as a member of the Student Affairs team, reporting to the Director of Social Pragmatics. and enhancing the Department's student outreach capacity. Primarily, the Assistant Director is responsible for serving as a support resource for students with social pragmatic challenges to promote student success and facilitate opportunities that encourage social engagement and social learning. Areas of responsibility include but are not limited to: Facilitating PEERS® groups, social coaching, and social pragmatic activities. The Assistant Director works closely with Enrollment Management in the recruitment efforts of applicants and their families.

This position will also facilitate at least one PEERS® group, provide social coaching to a limited number of students on campus, and support other social pragmatic department events and activities, including Landmark's Study Abroad to Berlin, Germany.

A 10-meal/week meal plan while the College is in session is included as part of the compensation and position requirements. The position will require occasional work on evenings and weekends.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate a weekly PEERS® group.
  • Provide Social Coaching for up to 10 students per week during the semester.
  • Provide Social Coaching for the High School Summer Program Social Pragmatics Track.
  • Plan and lead social pragmatic programming, both as a part of regularly assigned duties and as a back-up in the Director's absence.
  • Communicate professionally and knowledgeably about social pragmatic services at campus Open House, Professional Visit Days, on-campus orientation, and other regular and special events.
  • Attend recruitment events off-campus, including local, national, and international conferences.
  • Stay current with best practices and trends related to supporting college students in social pragmatics.
  • Assist the Director in evaluating incoming program admission files, flag areas of concern and help determine appropriateness for programs or accommodation considerations.
  • Serve as the Social Pragmatic representative on the college's Admissions Committees.
  • Assist the Director in maintaining and updating the department's web-site information and written program materials around Social Pragmatic support.  
  • Serve as an informational and support resource for parents of Social Pragmatics accepted students.
  • Assist the Director in the development and implementation of all aspects of the enhanced orientation program, including on-line parent meetings leading up to student's arrival on campus.
  • Assist the Director in interviewing parents/families participating in the enhanced orientation, write summary reports identifying housing recommendations and social support needs.
  • In addition to Enrollment Management, liaise with other departments (i.e. Marketing) to ensure effective program and information delivery.
  • Additional projects and assignments as determined with the Director of Social Pragmatics.

Qualifications:
Masters and BA degrees are required with concentration in psychology, education, or related discipline.

  • Understanding of learning differences, young adult development and working with students with ASD.
  • Familiarity with ADA and other federal laws and regulations relevant to higher education.
  • High emotional intelligence as demonstrated in the ability to effectively manage student stress and emotions.
  • Certification in online PEERS® facilitation training preferred (but required within the first three months of employment).
  • Ethical decision-making skills as demonstrated in the ability to appropriately handle sensitive and confidential student information.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability as demonstrated by the ability to empower and solicit collaborative efforts in others, including non-direct reports.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multiple college departments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite Products.
  • Ability to pass federal and state criminal background checks.

Experience in admissions and onboarding of neurodiverse individuals is required.
