Academic Support Staff (part time, in-person)

Academic Support Staff (Please note: This position is a part-time, in-person opportunity)

The primary purpose of the Academic Support Staff position is to provide Landmark College students with one-to-one and/or group support in reading, writing, executive function coaching, math and other related content areas. This is a part-time (up to 20hrs per week), non-benefitted position.

Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Coordinator of Academic Support, the Academic Support Staff is responsible for the following:

  • Providing academic coaching and support with time management, organization, planning/prioritization, study strategies, test preparation, and other executive function skills that facilitate academic success
  • Providing reading and writing support at all stages of the writing process
  • Providing academic support with course-based questions and assignments
  • Assisting students with use of educational/assistive technology
  • Informal assessment of academic skills
  • Consistent documentation of sessions
  • Attendance and participation in staff meetings and trainings
  • Prompt communication with supervisors
  • Compliance with COVID-19 protocols set forth by Landmark College and the state of Vermont
  • Understanding of FERPA, ADA law, and other laws/regulations that pertain to working with college students is expected. The ability to responsibly handle confidential/sensitive information is critical. 

Qualifications

  • Previous tutoring/academic support experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Advanced coursework in area of focus (e.g., writing, math, STEM, psychology, etc.)
  • Knowledge of best practices in supporting students with learning differences
  • Sensitivity to students’ intersecting identities and needs
  • Knowledge of theoretical information on student development and working with students with LD/ADHD and ASD
  • Availability to work evening hours preferred
