EAST

Eastern Alliance in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (EAST) promotes the participation of individuals with disabilities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics academic programs and careers. EAST works in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island.

 

Workforce Recruitment Program

The Workforce Recruitment Program for College Students with Disabilities (WRP) is a resource to connect public and private sector employers nationwide with highly motivated postsecondary students and recent graduates with disabilities who are eager to prove their abilities in the workforce. Employers seek to fill both temporary and permanent positions in a variety of fields.

 

Entry Point

ENTRY POINT! is a program of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) offering outstanding internship opportunities for students with disabilities in science, engineering, mathematics, computer science, and some fields of business. To meet the challenge of the competitive global economy in the new millennium, private industry and government research agencies must expand the pool of technical talent.

 

AAPD

The American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) is the largest national nonprofit cross-disability member organization in the United States, dedicated to ensuring economic self-sufficiency and political empowerment for the more than 50 million Americans with disabilities. AAPD works in coalition with other disability organizations for the full implementation and enforcement of disability nondiscrimination laws, particularly the

Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973

Microsoft

Designed and funded by Microsoft, and administered by the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD), a cross-disability organization with more than 90,000 members, the Microsoft-AAPD Federal IT Internship Program provides college students with disabilities paid summer internships at U.S. government agencies. The internships enable the students to hone their IT skills while gaining valuable work experience.

Emerging Leaders

Emerging Leaders is a highly competitive program that places college students with disabilities in fulfilling summer internships and provides them with leadership development opportunities. Emerging Leaders partners with businesses to help them find outstanding young talent while also considering diversity and inclusion in their hiring practices.

Washington Center's Public Service Internship Program for Students with Disabilities
The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars (TWC) is working to help students with disabilities develop leadership skills and gain valuable work experience in public service. The Washington Center compliments students' professional experience with solid academic training for credit from highly qualified instructors. In addition, students will be exposed to community, national and international leaders through workshops, seminars, lectures, embassy visits and networking events held throughout the course of each semester. Interns are offered a fully inclusive program, including accessible housing.

Entry Point!'s Advancement of Science Internships
ENTRY POINT!, a program of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), offers outstanding paid, 10-week internships and semester co-ops in major companies throughout the United States including NASA, IBM and Merck. Qualifying students must be full-time undergraduate or graduate students; be a Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Business, or Computer Science major. At these summer internships for college students with disabilities, you will benefit from a mentor and receive competitive pay.

 

Internships for Minorities

 

Minority Access, INC.

Many federal agencies have participated in Minority Access’ programs, including its highly acclaimed internship program in which students are paid while gaining professional and research experiences

 

NASA Education

The Motivating Undergraduates in Science and Technology Project, or MUST, funded by the NASA, is a joint partnership between the Hispanic College Fund, the United Negro College Fund Special Programs and the Society for Hispanic Professional Engineers.

MUST awards scholarships and internships to undergraduates pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM, fields. The MUST Project is open to all students and is particularly focused on engaging students from underserved and underrepresented groups to enter STEM fields.

Congressional Black Caucus Foundation

Established in 1986, the CBCF Congressional Internship Program answered the call to help diversify our democracy by increasing the pool of talented public servants. The intensive nine-week program provides college undergraduates with a behind-the-scenes look into the democratic process. Through experiential learning in the office of a Congressional Black Caucus Member, the internship prepares interns to be decision makers in the policy making process.

 

Hispanic Association of Colleges & Universities National Internship Program (HNIP)

Since 1992, HNIP has placed nearly 7,000 college students in rewarding and challenging internships matching their majors and career goals.  Participating agencies and corporations hope to increase diversity in their workforce by providing these internships to high-achieving Hispanic students.  This creates a pipeline of future employees who have had positive, meaningful work experience. The HACU National Internship Program recruits college students for paid summer and semester-long internships at federal agencies and private corporations in Washington, D.C., and throughout the country. These ten and fifteen-week internship programs give college students direct experience in a myriad of careers in the federal and corporate sectors. 

¡Adelante! Fund Internship Program

The ¡Adelante! Fund was designed as a vehicle to unite the needs of the Corporate World (an educated workforce) with the needs of the growing Hispanic college-age population. Juniors and seniors attending four-year institutions must seek practicum and hands-on training in the workplace. The ¡Adelante! Internship program provides students with the opportunity to intern in corporate environments throughout the United States, including at Univision, Citigroup, Nielson, the Department of Defense, and more. This program offers students the chance to learn the skills needed to enter the Corporate World upon graduation and the knowledge necessary to maintain success throughout their career.

WrightChoice Summer Intern Program
WrightChoice's mission is "Building a bridge between resource & opportunity for minority students & students with disABILITIES." One of their major initiatives to do so is their internship program, which currently has summer internships in Newark, Columbus, and Dayton, Ohio. Candidates must have a 3.0 GPA or better, must graduate within December 2009 and June 2010, and must be competitive on Pre-employment testing before being considered for an interview.  Compensation will be $12.66/hr. The program will run for 10 weeks with an emphasis on exposing the candidate to State Farm Operations and Agency opportunities. If you are interested in this opportunity, you must be available to go to the Newark Operation Center (1440 Granville Rd. Newark, Oh. 43055) to take the Pre-employment test. Internship Database for Latinos in the U.S.
The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute has a detailed list of over 50 internships available for Latino youth in cities around the country. Most of the internship programs focus on public policy, advocacy and education training for emerging leaders. There are opportunities available with organizations including the National Organization of Women (NOW), Migrant Health Promotion and more.
