What is Academic Advising at Landmark College?
Our academic advising program is much more in-depth and tailored to individual student needs than at other educational institutions. Advisors help you develop self-understanding and self-advocacy skills, set academic and personal goals, and make maximum use of all the resources Landmark College offers.
How does Academic Advising work?
Every student is assigned an academic advisor. The advisor works with you to establish goals and coordinate the whole range of your program. Advisors are either faculty members or administrators trained to advise students with learning disabilities and AD/HD.
Through regular — often weekly — meetings, advisors monitor and discuss your progress, make referrals to appropriate campus resources, and assist in planning a course of study. Advisors communicate directly with your instructors and Resident Dean. In addition, advisors are available to coordinate and facilitate any meetings with the your academic team.
Student Responsibilities in Advising
We offer a program designed to help you achieve and succeed. However,
it won't work unless you share our commitment.
In order to receive the full benefit of our individualized advising
program, you need
to:
• Regularly attend meetings;
• Actively engage in meetings;
• Honestly communicate with your advisor about any academic, adjustment, or personal problems which may be interfering with your academic progress;
• Consistently follow up on weekly goals.
Parental Contact
Advisors serve as the primary sources of contact for the parents of students in our educational program. Although parents may choose to communicate with other faculty and staff members, they should regard advisors as the first points of communication.
At the beginning of the year, each advisor will introduce themselves to your parents in the form of a letter, phone call, or email. Your parents will be provided with contact information. Parents or sponsors are welcome to contact your advisors with any questions regarding your academic program and progress.
