Course Description
SS2391 Methods of Cultural Field Study
Ethnography is an empirical, scientific approach for describing the cultural aspects of human life. Each student will conduct a field methods project that allows them to hone their research skills, synthesize their learning and present their findings. *Prerequisites: 1000 level SS core course, EN 1011 or 1015, and an FY course
Program Overview
Leiden is a small historically and culturally rich university town defined by a network of canals between Amsterdam and The Hague.
Students will be housed with international students based at Webster University where each studio flat provides a bathroom and kitchen. In addition to an engaging three credit curriculum with extensive field work analyzing Dutch culture, the program will offer a few days of cultural orientation, cultural excursions, a biking tour, and group dinners.
Cost of program:
$6,000 includes tuition, transportation (to and from Boston Logan International Airport), three group dinners, excursions to Amsterdam, and room. Students will be responsible for meals (a kitchen is in each studio apartment).
Application Process
Applicants must be in good academic standing, with no current disciplinary sanctions in effect. A completed application form along with a personal statement and recommendations from your advisor and RD are required.
