Uncut Diamonds Dinner Raises $1.5 Million for New STI Center

Whoopi Goldberg, Alex MacFarlane, and alumna and honoree Nicole Goodner MacFarlane Joanne Eden, Whoopi Goldberg, and Landmark College President Peter Eden The venue Bob Lewis, Chair of the Landmark College Board of Trustees, with Clementene and Russell Cosby. Russell is a Landmark College alumnus and the brother of Bill Cosby. Whoopi received the inaugural Landmark College LD Luminary Award. She has spoken on many occasions about her experiences with dyslexia and has served as an inspiration to others. The event was sold out! Nan Strauch, Uncut Diamonds event chair; Whoopi Goldberg; Bob Lewis, Chair of the Board of Trustees and event co-chair; and Anette Lewis Helen Lobrano, Event co-chair, and John Lobrano, member of the Board of Trustees Landmark College Communications Professor Geoff Burgess and Dr. Michelle Bower, Chair of the Mathematics and Computer Science Department Professor Geoff Burgess and alumna Nicole Goodner MacFarlane. Nicole speaks about Geoff's influence on her life in this video: Russell brought the audience to both tears and laughter with his story. Chuck is a Trustee Emeritus and a former Chair of the Board of Trustees, and Nan is a current Board member and was the chair of this event. Simon Teakle, of Simon Teakle Fine Jewelry and Objects, created an uncut diamond for the event and also volunteered his time as the evening's auctioneer. The student art auction included paintings, ceramics, and woodwork and raised $7,150. Now in her third semester at Landmark, Samantha Bouvier is a gifted ceramicist from Bedford, N.H. In creating the angel piece, she was trying to capture the sense of hopelessness many students feel when they arrive at Landmark College, thinking Joanne Eden is wearing the uncut diamond that was created especially for the event by Simon Teakle Fine Jewelry and Objects. The diamond later sold at auction for $6,000. Alumna Lissa Piercy performed a slam-style poem and received a standing ovation. Cindi Berger is the Chairman and CEO of PMK*BNC Public Relations & Marketing, which represents Ms. Goldberg.
