Changes to DSM 5

The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) is a reference tool used by clinicians and researchers to identify and categorize mental disorders, including Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), and specific learning disorders such as dyslexia and dyscalculia. It is revised periodically to reflect current research and practice.

An informative PowerPoint (1807KB, pdf) that summarizes changes we anticipate in the forth-coming version, DSM 5, is available for reference and review. The manual will be published by the American Psychological Association in May, 2013. The PowerPoint presentation is based on a workshop given by Linda Hecker, Lead Education Specialist of the Landmark College Institute for Research and Training (LCIRT), at a Brown Bag lunch session on November 5, 2012 for Landmark College faculty and staff. It  previews proposed changes to the areas that most directly impact students with ADHD, ASD, and learning disabilities.
