Rough ER![]() |
Smooth ER![]() |
|||
| The Endoplasmic Reticulum is the "subway system" of the cell. There are two types of E.R.: Smooth - no ribosomes on the outside, and Rough - has ribosomes on the outside. The structure of Rough E.R. consists of membranous channels studded with ribosomes. The Smooth E.R. structure is a membranous channel that has no ribosomes attached. The function of the Rough E.R. is to transport molecules within the cell and protein synthesis. The function of Smooth E.R. is to transport molecules and synthesize lipids. | ||||
