Welcome to the Assistive Technology web pages of the Landmark College Institute for Research and Training. Primarily, these pages are written for educators. Parents, students, and other technology users will find them helpful, as well; they can receive help using assistive technology from the IT Department.
What is Assistive Technology?
According to the Assistive Technology Act of 1988, assistive technology refers to "any item, piece of equipment, or product that is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities."
At Landmark College, assistive technology is used to facilitate academic skill development and to enable students to fully access the educational program.
For more information on Assistive Technology and individuals with dyslexia, please read a chapter from Judith Birsh's book, "Multisensory Teaching of Basic Language Skills," written by Landmark College's Linda Hecker and Ellen Urquhart Engstrom.
Portions of the Assistive Technology web pages were developed under a U.S. Department of Education, Office of Postsecondary Education grant awarded to Landmark College: Ensuring Students with Disabilities Receive a Quality Higher Education (CFDA No. 84.333).
