Whether you're returning for J-Term or Spring, or graduating in December, there are some requirements you'll need to fulfill before leaving your room for Winter Break.

If you are...

Returning for J-Term/Spring 2014 to the SAME room:

You may leave your belongings in your room. In addition, you must fulfill below requirements. These will be reviewed with RA/RD staff when you check out:

  1. Remove trash from your room and all common areas to prevent bug and rodent problems. Swipe down surfaces, organize belongings and put away clothes in dressers and other storage containers.  If your roommate is not returning or moving to a new room, you will need to pick up all belongings from the floor so your room can be cleaned by custodians over the break.  Cleanup for any trash left in room/suite-apartment common space will be billed to the room. It is recommended that you put any valuable/loose belongings, books or clothes up off the floor in case of a water leak.
  2. Secure all valuables and personal belongings. The College assumes no liability for personal property.
  3. Unplug all appliances including fridge.  Fridge must be defrosted/cleaned prior to checkout, and left open to stop mold growth.  Put towel in bottom of fridge to collect moisture.  (Students living in Bridges must remove all perishable foods from common fridge and clean the fridge out, but it can be left plugged in over the break)
  4. Close and lock room doors and windows. Close shades on first floor. Leave shades up on second/third floor.
  5. Turn your key over to staff at your checkout appointment.  Students who do not turn in keys will be billed for a key core change.
  6. Please be advised, residence hall staff will inspect every room prior to closing the halls for break and secure any unlocked doors; don’t get charged for a lockout!
  7. If leaving a car on campus, please park it in the Facilities Overflow Lot. Cars left on upper or lower campus will be towed at owner’s expense in the event of a snowstorm.

Returning for J-Term/Spring 2014 to a DIFFERENT room:

You will need to store your belongings over the break, in addition to fulfilling below requirements Arranging for storage is your responsibility (Storage and Packing Information). These requirements will be reviewed with RA/RD staff when you check out:

  1. Remove all of your belongings from your room prior to check out appointment.
  2. Please note any abandoned property will be disposed of.
  3. Vacuum floor and clean common spaces.  Wipe down all surfaces with wet paper towel or sponge to remove any residue.
